ACC Hurlers - 14 October 2008

Athlone Community College 0-9  St. Joseph's Rochfortbridge 0-9

Well done to ACC hurlers on a fantastic performance on Tuesday 7th October in the game v Rochfortbridge. Despite being the underdogs ACC showed that heart and commitment counts for so much in sport. The game was played in terrible weather conditions which meant the game was played in a very physical manner. The ACC players showed great pride in their school jersey and battled to the very end, coming from five points down to earn a draw and indeed could have stolen it at the death. St. Joseph's are an excellent team with some very classy players from great traditional clubs like Raharney and Delvin in Westmeath, and to be competing with them at all was a great achievement for the Athlone lads.

Best on the day were Keith Mullarney in goals, John Sullivan and Liam Muldoon in the fullback line, the half line of Evan Kelly, James Shaughnessy and Shane Blackweir were superb throughout. Eoin Kelly worked hard at midfield and up front Brian Shaughnessy, Eamon Mulry (Sharpshooter supreme) and Conor Daly worked tirelessly until the end.

Having secured three points following victory in the first game over St. Finians Mullingar and a point from the above fixture , the team now meet Kilbeggan in a make or break game next week. Best of luck to all the players.
