Aware Fundraising - 07 November 2008
On Thursday and Friday the 11th and 12th of September, our Transition Year class went fundraising for Aware. Aware is a charity organisation founded in 1985 in order to assist people with depression. Approximately, 400,000 people in Ireland suffer from depression. Unfortunately, many of these people do not seek help. Over 500 people commit suicide in Ireland every year. Since its foundation, Aware has worked to support people with depression at their families and to dispel the misunderstanding and the myths that surround this disease.
TY students collected money in three locations in the town. Those who
donated received a sticker, daisy pin or daffodil seeds. We also fund
raised in the school canteen and it is fair to say that the school community
and members of the general public gave generously. We would like to take
this opportunity to thank all of those who donated and indeed those who
participated in the voluntary fundraising including our teacher and organizer
Mr. Robert O Dwyer
