The BT Young Scientist and Technology exhibition took place last week in Dublin. Athlone Community College had two projects accepted among the 550 finalists. Transition Year students, Paul Connaughton, Jamie O’ Kane and Neil Dermody entered a project entitled’ Ragwort – yellow peril or precious flower?’. The students investigated where ragwort grows in Ireland. They also looked into the uses of ragwort and discovered that thirty species of insects and fourteen types of fungi grow on it.
