High School Musical - 14 December 2009

Congratulation to Patricia Magee, her production team Elaine McDonnell, Hazel Hannon, Margaret Egan and Niamh Donohoe and of course the talented young cast of High School Musical who entertained young and old alike over four evenings in October at Athlone’s Dean Crowe Theatre.

Troy played by Ronan Donohoe and Gabriella played by Avril Horan captured the spirit of the original High School Musical. Excellent performances were also put in by Sharpay played by Sarah Daly, and Chad played by Michael Oviawe. Ryan played by John Harte and Kelsie played by Niamh Watson added immensely to the show.

Clare Gillespie put in a captivating performance in her presentation of Mrs. Darbus actively challenging the formidable Coach Bolton when the need arose. Her artistic and creative leaning provided useful ideas for school detention in the future! Who could forget Jessica Ray’s personal interpretation of a student’s yearning to be a caterpillar?

Niamh Donohoes excellence as a choreographer was evident in the meticulously rehearsed dance routines. In a performance that was vibrant, energetic, colourful, uplifting and espoused a strong moral, almost 100 students from 12 -17 years old gave their hearts to a show that will remain in their memories long after many other trivia have been forgotten.
