Athlone Community College Mental Health Debating
team: Aoife Coyle, Caroline Dowling, Maggie Wallace and Bronwyn Reid McDermott
(sub) spoke convincingly earning them the title of Midland Winners. The
students go forward to the National Semi Finals later in the month. Congratulating
the girls were Derry O’Dwyer, Master of Ceremonies (Mental Health Ireland)
and Chris Forde mentor to the team.
Congratulation to Athlone Community College Public Speaking Team who are this years Mental Health Public Speaking County Champions having defeated a team from Wilson’s Hospital Secondary school last week. The team was made up of Caroline Dowling, Aoife Coyle and Maggie Wallace.
They spoke on topics as diverse as Celebrity Culture, Storms and Rainbows and the trials and tribulations of being a teenager. We wish the team and their mentor Mr. Forde all the best in the regional final at the end of March. The ultimate winners of this competition will receive a trip to Brussels and a perpetual trophy.
