ACC’S First Year Basketball Girls Storm to Victory!
During our first league match against Ballymahon Vocational School it was quite clear to see that the girls from Athlone Community College got off to a great start by scoring the first basket of the match. The match was tense at times with Ballymahon putting baskets away, however, the girls of Athlone Community College were just too strong in terms of skill, team playing and dedication and had a wonderful victory over their opponents. The girls played fantastically throughout the entire game and their coaches Ms. Sarah Seoige and Ms. Niamh.Short were very proud of the end result of 24 – 12 to Athlone Community College. Well done girls!
Athlone Community College’s hockey team travelled to Sligo on Wednesday 29th to play their first match against Ursuline and Grammer in the Cahill Cup. ACC stayed strong and had possession for most of the game. Fay Warnock had a great game in goal. Ally Mahon, Ife George and Aisling Mulvihill stood strong in the back line. Molly Connaughton, Blaithin McDaid, Megan Coolahan and Clodagh Moxham held the team together in mid-field. While Aldara, Orla Dunchan and Caoimhe Gunthrie were ready for when the ball came forward to get a goal. The starting team were well supported by the rest of their team mates, Alba, Ruth Warrillow, Síle Downey and Emma Healy who also played a blinder when the came on.
Athlone Community College won their match against Ursuline 1-0, with Blaithin McDaid getting their first goal of the season. They drew to Grammer in their second match 1-1, Molly Connaughton scoring. The First Years really enjoyed their matches and look forward to their games ahead.
