Sports Day at Athlone Community College

Year girls enjoy the fun of sports day at Athlone Community College
Perhaps we were in the favour of the gods, but on Thursday May 20th the first truly hot summer’s day coincided with sports day. May 2009 did not afford us even one reasonably warm day but this year allowed students to remember what sports day used to be: balmy sunshine, gentle breeze, apple tart and cream and easy living between the competitions.

Mr. Chris Forde Master of ceremonies called the teams to their locations, announced the winners and provided appropriate commentary. The sports field was a sea of colour and good humour. From tug-of war, high jump, long jump and javelin to the annual teachers versus students soccer matches, the day was enjoyed by all and in the end if you didn't win a medal you at least went home with a suntan and Mr. Conor Foley, event organiser, breathed a sigh of relief!
