Students raise money for well deserving charities - 04 December 2009
Bóthar - The gift that keeps on giving

L to R: Mr. Eunan Martin, William Fox, Claire Gibbons, Naomi Lennon, Bóthar
representative Mr. Conor O’Donoghue and Nathan Carney.
A successful enterprise project organised by students together with their teacher Mr. Eunan Martin raised funds for Bóthar when they prepared, cooked and served tasty hot dogs over lunchtime. Students felt that was a deserving charity because they not only provide poor families with an animal they also train and prepare the families who receive the animal. The students suggest that instead of giving unwanted gifts that perhaps a Bóthar donation would be an appropriate gift this Christmas.
Guide Dogs for the Blind

Well done to Daniel Fitzpatrick, Daniel Kelly, Mark Gaughan, Jamie Grehan
and Enda Keena who raised over €300 for the Irish Society of Guide Dogs
for the Blind. As part of their Link Modules Enterprise Action Plan under
the direction of Mr. Eunan Martin, the boys sought sponsorship and successfully
climbed Croagh Patrick. Ms. Deirdre Keaveney representing the society
accepted the cheque and complimented the boys on their efforts.

Concern Fast
Every year students participate in the annual Christmas Concern Fast under the guidance of Religion Teachers. A guest speaker explains the work that Concern partakes in. Each year a considerable amount of money is raided which help finance the wonderful work that Concern does for deprived groups of people who live in developing countries.
St. Vincent de Paul
In the month of December students donate a non-perishable item of food
which is collected for the St. Vincent de Paul hamper appeal. A high number
of hampers are assembled and donated by the students of Athlone Community
College.
