Student recipients of the Gaisce Award

Athlone Community College Transition Year Presentation Ceremony took place on Thursday 19th May at 7.30 p.m. The theme for this year's ceremony was Unity and Uniqueness. The night explored and celebrated the various activities that the students had been involved in during the Year. Students provided an entertaining account of their years work including: work experience, fundraising, career studies, drama and dance, public Access to Law, Gaisce, Horse Riding , Communications, Young Scientist, Sci Fest and Trip to Poland
A unique aspect of this years programme was the introduction of Transition Units approved by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment.

Athlone Community College was selected as one of the four pioneering schools to participate in this programme. These Transition Units have been a remarkable success and will be now rolled out on a nationwide basis. The modules include: Dance and Drama-The Children of Lir, Communications-I've got Something to Say!, Road Safety, Multi Culturalism-Lost in Translation, Irish Food.
Niamh Donohoe Transition Year Coordinator paid tribute to the generous sponsorship that Benny Irwin and Co. Solicitors have provided for the Public Access to Law Programme.

Special Merit Awards were presented to Michelle Mc Hugh and Mark Roche who represented the school in the School Concern Debating, Conor Harney for embracing the spirit of Transition Year, Niall Guinan for his dedication to school orchestra and choir and finally to Anthony Keane for achieveing the incredible score of 99% in Polish Language Classes. Conor Donohoe and Jonathan Kilduff for receiving the research potential Award at Sci Fest for their project''Do state Exams reflect Natural Ability.
