Transition Year Presentation Ceremony - 19th May 2008.

Ms. Niamh Donohoe, Transition Year Coordinator opened the proceedings. The theme of the evening was very appropriate, Unity and Uniqueness. The event was compered by two Transition Year students: Ciara O' Neill and Kenneth Dilllon.

Students provide synopsises on their years work including projects, debates, awards and foreign trips. Some light entertainment was also tremendously received. "Qui a le Doit?" was a song performed by the French class under the conductorship of Ms. Niamh Murphy. Students also displayed their salsa skills in pairs and received a rapturous applause. The dancers included: Karen Duffy, Enda Kenna, Ciara O'Neill, Conor Kelly, Shauna Conlon, Joseph Duke, Shauna Brophy and Darren Harney.

The Power of One team who completed a project on LED Lights were awarded best research award. They consisted of: Niamh Cooney,Shauna Brophy, Colin Costello, Enda Keena and David Dockery.

The Public Access to Law and the court room re-enactment was entertaining and informative and to no ones surprise Conor Kelly achieved the highest result, a most capable and humorous witness. Franklin Foods researched by Bronwyn Reid-Mc Dermott and Ciara O' Neill for the BT Young Scientist Competition and won the Intermediate Award in the Scifest Competition held in Athlone Institute of Technology a few short weeks ago.

Niamh Lennon presented an entertaining view of the school trip to Belgium and this was accompanied by a slide show of the years work-not a dry eye in the house. The following students achieved special merit awards For involvement in the west Leinster League: Shane Mc Inerney, Conor Kelly, Enda Keena and Darren Harney. For their involvement in the Agri-Aware competition and project on Carty Meats the following students were commended: Ciaran O' Connor, Kenneth Dillon, Cathal Waldron and Micheal Fallon were commended.

The Concern All Ireland Champions team consisted of two Transition Year pupils Bronwyn Reid-Mc Dermott(captain) and Ciaran O' Connor.

This year a credit system was the new form of assessment for Transition Year pupils and Enda Keena and Micheal Fallon achieved 142.5 and 142 points respectively out of a possible 150.
Various Presentations were made towards the end of the ceremony including Subject Awards, Gaisce Awards and Public Access to Law.

The Award for excellent attendance was presented to : Ciara O' Neill and this award was presented by Mr.Val O' Connor, Principal. Joan Burke, Ericssons Athlone Human Resource spoke about her delight to represent Ericsson and the company's wish to continue sponsorship of the award. The recipients were: Ciara O' Neill and Ciaran O' Connor. Mr. Mark Dowling, Yearhead remarked that the awards that the students had achieved were testament to the hard work and dedication of teachers. He also explained that the NCCA had chosen this school as one of five to participate in a pilot project to establish Transition Year modules of best practice in the next academic year
Mr Val O' Connor commended the hard work and professionalism of Ms. Niamh Donohoe and explained that the class had embraced the ethos and spirit of the Transition Year Programme.
