Young Athlone Athlete takes Bronze at the National Pentathlon Championships - 19 September 2008


The Irish National Pentathlon Championships took place over the weekend of the 6th and 7th Sept in Rolestown Dublin. The Fencing, Shooting, and running at new venue Cluain Orna. Swimming at the national Aquatic centre and Horse Riding at the Killossery Riding Centre. The events were a great success. The athletes took part in five disciplines: shooting, fencing, swimming , running and horse jumping. The categories were: masters, seniors, juniors and groups.


Sionann O Reilly - Collins took part for the first time in Pentathlon and took overall bronze in the Juniors category. She had never held a gun or fenced prior to the competition. However, she wishes to thank Johnny Powell of Athlone Swimming Club for coaching her and also Claire Gaffey, Athlone Equestrian Centre for lessons in show jumping. In the individual events Sionann took bronze in the swimming and also performed exceptionally well in the show jumping fencing and running. She is a keen swimmer winning the Aquaton earlier this year.
